With the release of Issue 39: Relationships, we close the year shaped by our editorial cycle, Value Attachment—a thread guiding our questions and reflecting the material conditions of our publishing practice.
When we began this publishing year with Reset, we aimed to reconsider how our readers shape Arts of the Working Class, and how we, in turn, shape the future of independent publishing. 2025 has been one of our hardest years yet. As a non-profit, each print issue is made possible only through extensive fundraising to cover printing, shipping, and related costs, often under uncertainty. Like many small publishers, cultural initiatives, and non-profits, we’ve faced shrinking public funding, disappearing advertisement budgets, and the exhaustion of precarious work that has long been our condition.
Global events—wars, rising fascism, displacement, and the erosion of social structures—have only underscored the urgency of what we do. As we wrote in Reset: This paper persists because it has to. That remains true today.
We continue publishing because we believe in redistributing wealth, visibility, and voice. We keep building infrastructures linking culture, critique, and imagination rather than capital. Sustaining Arts of the Working Class is insisting that art and thought remain common forces, capable of transforming alienating economies into shared infrastructures of care. This collection celebrates resilience despite all odds.
This retrospective subscription includes all five issues from 2025: Reset, Experience, Transfigurations, Choreography, and Relationships. Each issue is a fragment of a year-long reflection on what we hold close, what we share, and what we choose to let go. Together, they form a living archive—a choreography of thought and imagery that maps the conditions sustaining our work and relationships.
